LIC Love Boat with Murray Hill
Murray Hill brought a host's wit, the Dazzle Dancers' theatrical energy, and a regular live-performance pulse to the Beach's first season.
Saturday nights with Murray Hill.
Murray Hill made the Beach feel like a stage. LIC Love Boat mixed hosting, dancing, cabaret energy, and the freedom of a night outside on the Long Island City waterfront.
With the Dazzle Dancers and guest music in the mix, the run added personality and live performance to a place already known for DJs, burgers, beer, and the skyline.
A run across the first season.
The archive currently names two dates: September 8 with Murray Hill and a salsa-oriented DJ, and October 6 with Murray Hill and the Dazzle Dancers. The October notice called Love Boat a return engagement.
Harry remembers Murray Hill's performance as a regular series over a number of weeks. These two surviving dates are part of that larger run, with more photographs and memories still to come.
The Beach as a stage.
Love Boat showed how much could happen on the sand. A host, dancers, music, and the waterfront turned an ordinary night at the Beach into a show, giving the first season some of its most theatrical character.
Where this came from
Water Taxi Beach archive notices, first-season programming correspondence, Harry Hawk's memory of the regular run, and two photographs from October 6, 2005.
